My research combines Indology and the history of religion to explore how ritual, mantras, and yoga have shaped Hinduism in India from the late Bronze Age up through today, with a focus on sacred sound, Vedic texts, and Brahmanical traditions in Kerala.  I’m the author of This Whole World is OM: Mantra, Yoga, and the the Sacred Syllable in Early India (Oxford University Press, forthcoming), the first-ever monograph on OM, the ubiquitous sacred syllable of Indian religions.
